Results from the club finals on Saturday 17th September. The ladies' singles final was contested by the same players as in 2010 and 2009; 15 year old Natalie Bacon and little-bit older Ali Burd each of whom had one previous title. This time the honours went to Natalie after a close contest which went to three sets. In the men's singles Natalie's brother Gregory Bacon won for the third year running, beating club coach Alex Button in a hard-hitting slugfest. Sarah Thacker and Dani Grant triumphed in the ladies' doubles, while Chris Cope and Ross Seymour took the men's title in a final set tie-break nailbiter. Pausing only for a tin of lemonade, Cope cooly went on to partner the stylish Jane Ryder-Richardson to victory in the mixed doubles. All except one final went to three sets. Congratulations to all the worthy victors, and see you at awards night on October 15th. |
