No doubt like me you are looking forward to long those warm summer days (which seem to come earlier every year!). The winter has been a busy one at the club, with plenty of junior coaching and matches taking place, and the new kitchen works now nearing completion. We hope the reorganisation of the Clubhouse will improve both the catering and changing facilities, as well as providing vital storage.2007 promises to be another busy year with plenty of Club sessions, matches and coaching going on on-court, and plenty of barbecues, parties and even some rounders taking place off-court. We also now have Rebecca Llewellyn (Ladies UK no.8) training under Hamid’s guidance at the Club, so look out for her when you are down and you might learn a few tricks. We wish Rebecca a very successful 2007, and look forward to hopefully seeing her play in SW19 in June.
For members this year there will be three “Super Saturdays” – when we shall have drinks and a barbecue down at the Club from 4pm following the senior club session. All members – Associates, Juniors and Students are more than welcome to come down from 4pm and enjoy some food and drink – and have a game too if they are feeling energetic. Please bring friends and relations too.
We shall also be punting along the Cam this summer, followed by a game of rounders and perhaps the odd beverage on Jesus Green in Cambridge – please come along for the punting, rounders or both.
After the roaring success of last year’s anniversary ceilidh, we shall be doing it all again in Neil and Alison Harvey’s garden – for those of you who enjoyed it last year, no doubt you will be back, for those who couldn’t/didn’t make it, then you really missed out, but you can fix that this year!
This year there will again be the Club Championships, the Generation tournament, the Mixed Handicap tournament, the Club Championships, and the Veterans’ tournament and there will be lots of club matches for both seniors and juniors (especially as we are entering junior teams in all of the National Junior Club League age groups). For the first time ever we will have mini-tennis teams competing for GSTC – best of luck to all of them. For those of you who enjoy watching as much as playing, please do come down and support GSTC teams. Every Thursday and Friday there are matches from 7pm from May to August and we always play better with the crowd behind us – just ask the Ladies 1st team, Cambs league division one champions in 2006!!
The GSTC clothing range has now been expanded to include baseball caps in a dashing navy blue, coupled with the Club’s crest on the front and GSTC on the back. If you haven’t yet acquired a fleece top or shirt, or the funky rugby shirt, please do give me a call, or click through the website.
The website’s members-only section (password details will come with your handbook and shoe tags) will be crammed full of useful information, where you can look up the court availability, see the teams’ results, or check what events are coming up, or even book coaching on-line !! We hope this will keep you all well informed about everything happening at GSTC.
We on the committee rely on you as members to keep us up to date with your comments, and come up with bright new ideas to improve our facilities, playing conditions, the website, social events or anything else you can think of, so please do contact us with your thoughts, views and ideas.
Wishing you an enjoyable and successful 2007
Cheers
